Laser Teeth Whitening

During Smile White laser teeth whitening a filter high intensity light is applied to the teeth. This light activates a non peroxide teeth whitening gel. Stains are oxidised and removed quickly and painlessly. It achieves excellent results 30 minutrs or less. The treatment is painless and does not cause damage to the teeth. Non peroxide gels are used therefore this treatment is suitable even for those with sensitive teeth.

Home Teeth Whitening Trays

These home teeth whitening trays are normally provided by your dentist. Dentists prescribe peroxide up to 6% for home whitening. You apply the gel to the teeth and leave the tray in place in order to help the gel to make contact with the teeth for an extended period of time.

After 10 – 14 days, of wearing the trays (usually overnight), you will notice that teeth are whiter. This is the recommended treatment for those who have internalised stains on their teeth such as those caused by tetracycline and medication. It is the most aggressive teeth whitening system used in Ireland but may not be suitable for those with sensitive teeth as the peroxide could increase sensitivity.

Whitening Toothpaste and Other Whitening Products

These are recommended to maintain your whitening colour after laser teeth whitening. However they may not be strong enough or contain ingredients capable of removing stubborn stains from the teeth in the same way that Laser teeth whitening or home whitening trays can. They normally contain a slightly abrasive material similar to a facial scrub. This allows externalised stains to be abraded away and so keep the teeth looking clean and fresh.

Baking Soda

Baking soda has long been recommended for teeth whitening. Infact, it is the ingredient found in many teeth whitening products and toothpastes. It oxidises stains as it “fizzes” slightly on contact with water.
